The Altarknotto is located in the town of Rotzo and is one of the most special and spectacular placet of the Asiago Plateau.
It looks like a huge boulder overlooking the Valdastico. The time has given rise to a number of legends and interpretations. The name, proveniante from Cimbrian, seems to suggest that once was used as altar, perhaps with sacrificial function.
An ancient legends wanted it to be the abode of the devil, or that it was hiding under the fabulous treasure of the dwarves. Maybe it's just a quirk of nature, it is certain that his imposing appearance and its particular location must have inspired men of the past quite a few fears and suggestions.
Another place is the legendary Altaburg (whose name means "old village"). It’s a hill near Rotzo, formerly devoted to the worship of pagan gods, where he was probably erected the first cross the Plateau, to seal the arrival here the new religion.
