Due to its landscape the Plateau of the 7 Municipalities is a perfect area to practice mountain ski. Gentle slopes, vast territories in the north covered with snow, and high peaks can satisfy the needs of different skiers. The most popular area for skiing is located in the North, from Passo Vezzena to Marcesina, covering about 25 km.
Among the main difficult peaks that require good skills, there are: Cima Portule, Cima XII, Monte Verena (the so-called “roversi”, on the North side), and all slopes that go down to Valsugana. There are other mountains that can be reached quite easily and represent popular destinations for ski tours and beginners in mountain skiing. There are lots of easy trails through picturesque woods as well as easy slopes. Several former military roads represent a valuable help in this regard offering easy and varied tracks.
The support points stay mostly not maintained, although there are other alternatives, such as the facilities in the villages at the bottom of the slopes. The camps are almost all equipped with a wood stove (Busa delle Dodase, Campilussi). The avalanche danger is generally low on the Plateau, but can sometimes happen in the North. Thus, you must be aware of the mechanisms leading to the formation of avalanches and the consistency of snow, listening to the snow reports of ARPAV (the regional meteocentre).
